Taste of Devon
Bold cooking with quality seasonal ingredients with a twist, from our local forager working the moor and the Devon coastline, to our local farmers championing local native breeds.
We firmly believe that the best ingredients are seasonal and local!
We work closely with local Devon Farmers and follow the journey of the animal where it grazes its lifestyle and the farmers ethos of working with traditional local breeds which may not produce the biggest yield of meat but our traditional to Devon.
The majority of farmers have moved away from native breeds and moved towards large breeds creating bigger yields but sacrificing welfare and taste and jeopardising the existence of a lot of traditional local breeds
The farmers we work with share our ethos of maturing the animal on the hoof rather than on the hook.
We have forty five covers within our restaurant and we are looking to create the ultimate relaxed dining experience.
Let us start by offering a pre-dinner drink from our bar again focusing on local Devon producers where possible creating our own seasonal cocktails made by our experienced Head Bar Man Joey Bongard working closely with our chefs to create twists on modern classics.
Email Joey to pre-create a special cocktail of your choice for those special occasions.

Matt Palmer – Catering & Marketing Manager
I am passionate about keeping food simple and allowing the quality of the produce we work with to do the talking. It was essential for the success of the restaurant to engage a Head Chef who is as passionate about local produce and traditional breeds, who believes like me in understanding how the animals are raised to create the flavour and to ensure the sustainability of historic local Devon breeds.
Elly Wentworth - Head Chef Our new Head Chef Elly Wentworth after two weeks at the helm is thriving, showing why she impressed judges Marcus Wearing and Monica Galletti.
Elly has no shortage of competition experience. She competed in the prestigious Royal Academy of Culinary Arts awards and was one of only four chefs to be given an Award of Excellence.
With the history of The Angel and the success it enjoyed whilst under the great leadership of Joyce Molineux, we very much wanted the next chapter of The Angel to be led by one of the top female rising culinary stars. In a male dominated industry Elly is keen to mentor and nurture more female chefs to come.
Craig Akehurst – Pastry Chef
